I’m not sure if this is just an older style wafrior writing that was more common in the ‘s or one of the signs of the author’s inexperience, but for me, it was a little confusing and made it more difficult to get inside warruor character’s head.
The plot felt really rushed and the characters were boring. Elizabeth was a patient wrrior. I could go on. Her irritation turned to exasperation when he began to snore. Even though she isn’t very good at more feminine things such as sewing and household maintenance, Elizabeth still had a tender side which made her more relatable to me.
Unfortunately, it also had some really unpleasant elements that made me struggle between giving this 1 or 2 stars. Well, except for when Garwood gentls to Elizabeth’s mare as “him”. Elizabeth, who has wolfhounds and a hawk gawood her beck and call because that’s the epitome of “cool” for women in medieval times has just seen her entire family slaughtered and is hell-bent on revenge against her pansy-assed uncle, whom she thinks is responsible for the crime.
I always enjoy Anne Flosnik’s performances of romances set in feudal and victorian England. May contain a number of explicitly descriptive love scenes.
I don’t think I can finish it. Enjoy and Be Blessed. I was laughing for most of the book ,narrator’s voice for Geoffrey was the funniest thing! Nov 26, Brenda rated it liked it Shelves: I’ve been reading historical romances for over 40 years and Julie Garwood has always been a favorite.
I’ll allow though that on one of those occasions she had just confessed to doing something disobedient although she had thought better of the idea and didn’t fully go through with itand then wardior followed that up with an act that scared the living daylights out of him even though it had a good outcome.
I just hope my lack of memory about some of those garowod elements means she dropped them from her list of standard tropes. She’s very stubborn, single minded about seeking revenge and kinda of uninteresting. Her British accent adds authenticity to the read.
I am only disappointed because the same author gave me Alec and Broderick! This book has all the elements that make up a good Historical Romance story, although the sexual and arguing scenes were a little over the top for me. I found out how bad.

Neither one was really plumbing the depths of humanity, although they certainly went for SOME sort of depth-plumbing, ha ha ha. Overall, he was generally a good hero though, and the other cast of characters was abs Another great Garwood romance with a fantastic cast of characters, though hero was a little too much at times Setting: Open Preview See a Problem?
This was not her usual way with voices. In fact, I would have to say that the largest part of this book was about them learning to compromise and come to terms with the other’s inherent personality traits.
To anyone considering purchasing one of the books she’s narrated, be sure to listen to the snippets provided by Audible. So, overall, I guess I would say that it had a pretty good balance even if that part bugged me just a little bit. My thoughts on the characters While I really enjoyed this books, Geoffrey is one of the more frustrating characters I have found in Julie Garwood’s novels. She just seemed contradictory to me. Gentle Warrior – Ex Garwood, Julie – standalone In feudal England, Elizabeth Montwright barely garwoood the massacre that destroyed her family and exiled her from her ancestral castle.
That picture makes a puppy frolicking in the grass under a blue sky. Instead of being completely despondent, as would be wholly understandable, she’s intent on avenging her family and taking revenge on the man responsible for their deaths, while also doing her best to protect her younger brother, who is in danger since he’s the heir to gentoe father’s holding and was one of the intended targets of the massacre.
