The book did deliver – I felt I was handed a ‘behind the scenes’ beauty salon guide in my hands. Somerville does a very detailed analysis of skin and it complexitiies, its working, what affects it how to care for it.
However, one part that did let me down was the reliance on salon e When I saw this book, I jumped onto it as a chance to figure out how a ‘normal’ person without the entourage of beauty consultants like celebrities with perfect skin could aspire to achieve complexion perfection.
However, one part that did let me down was the reliance on salon equipment and treatments to achieve perfeection results ‘promised’. Provided one somerviille first afford such consultations in whch case getting this book would be irrelevant as you could just step into a salon and request the best treatment for your skinthe book is definitely a guide if you’re clueless as to what beauty treatment would work for your condition.
Yes, I wasn’t naive enough to expect she wouldn’t push her own line, but complexon some points this ‘marketing’ did feel like the whole book was just set up and written to push people towards Ms. Somerville’s salons and beauty osmerville line. Still, this is a good book if spmerville want to know what works and what doesn’t, and how to approach your skin with the mindset of a beauty therapist who knows what’s good and what isn’t.

She is a “paramedical esthetician” pushing her own products, and not a dermatologist, so her remedies are superficial ones. If you have a chronic problem, then you’re likely going to need perfectioj good dermatologist. The before and after photos somervilel dramatic otherwise, why show them? My dermatologist believes sunscreen and Retin-A or retinol products are two of the best things you can do for your skin, and that facials and microdermabrasion are now totally unnecessary.

This is not just someone giving you a Cosmo version of healthy skin, Somerville gets into the science of skin care in such a way that the reader is not overwhelmed. Another extremely useful feature of the book is the list of skin treatments.
She even tells you which current hypes everyone should katte, like microdermabrasion and oral antibiotics. She also warns us to avoid synthetic fragrances, petrochemicals, nanoparticles, and animal testing.

It really is an amazing book. Very educational, informative and interesting. A complete guide that goes from the most simple and inexpensive thing you can do for the benefit of your skin to the most expensive one.
