By the time I felt I understood, there was no longer really any stakes to the action, and yet still, there was Cramer being silly, now with his prize, Fanfarlo. The translation is odd, too, occasionally opting, part Odd, apparently highly biographical little story that does an admirable job of keeping the reader at a distance.
